The Story of How SUNNYRAY Came Alive
Once upon a time, I experienced an overwhelming amount of loss. Everything that had once identified me no longer felt like it fit, and I knew I needed to step away from it all.
So I chose somewhere completely foreign.
I found myself doing a work exchange on an aquaculture farm in Waimānalo, Oʻahu. There, I learned alongside people who were kind, generous, hardworking, and deeply resourceful. They built homes, gardens, and infrastructure from reclaimed materials. Every Thursday, we cooked together using whatever had been harvested that week and hosted what they called Thankful Thursday—bringing friends, family, neighbors, and strangers around the same table to share a meal.
My weekdays were spent feeding fish and animals. On weekends, I wandered through the art fairs in Honolulu, spending hours admiring the work of local artists.
I was captivated by artists who snorkeled beneath the ocean to collect sea glass, later setting each piece into handcrafted pendants. Surfers gathered leftover surfboard wax and resin, transforming what would have been discarded into bold statement earrings. Their work carried stories of their daily lives, rituals, passions, and connection to the land. Sustainability wasn't a trend—it was simply woven into the way they created.
I was inspired by their ability to reimagine so-called "waste" into wearable art.
After nine months on the island, it was time to return home. I left carrying immense gratitude for everything the land, the people, and the slower rhythms of island life had taught me. Soon after, I moved to Montréal to study silversmithing.
There, I learned to bend metal into organic forms, to use fire to transform chemistry, and to slowly understand the language of making by hand. Through silversmithing, I found something I could devote myself to. A craft I wanted to spend years practicing, refining, and growing alongside. It opened a portal I never knew existed—one that felt deeply authentic to who I am.
Today, I create jewelry. I collaborate with creatives. I connect with people who love art, music, craftsmanship, and thoughtful design. Looking back, I realize that in what first felt like an escape, I was actually finding my way home. I found community. I witnessed people who loved their land and cared deeply for one another. I discovered that creation has no boundaries when it is rooted in curiosity, generosity, and intention. Slowly, what once felt like a bottomless void began to fill with meaning.
SUNNYRAY was born from that journey. Through each collection, I hope to create pieces that accompany people through every chapter of life—the moments of joy, grief, change, celebration, uncertainty, and growth. Jewelry becomes more than an object; it becomes a quiet witness to the lives we live.
My hope is that these pieces help you feel a little more like yourself, and a little more connected to the ever-growing community we create together.
